thanks.
Yes.With one of those slick tyres you see on the left corner of the suspension+wheel photo.I already have a 4 pot Braking caliper and a R1 brake pump to apply.Thats for now..the bike is on a stand without the complete front..im waiting for steering bearings to machine the clamps stem to fit the XR stock bearings.
I understand... I made the same thing to put on my XR600 the complete front forks from a CRF! :)
Brake pump you have is for single disk or double disk front brake?
I mean it could not fit perfectly with braking caliper... :)

Gianpi sei grande!!!
Zipper, your bike looks good :) , but friendly speaking, I don't like the front mudflap You have;
I´ve done some search and the 4 pot braking caliper needs a large amount of fluid to move the 4 pots.In comparison a Motomaster 4 pot caliper needs much less fluid.I got it from german ebay for 50 euros. If its too much i will sell it.Brembo 16mm would be perfect but too much money.
The front fender is ugly.I know :) but its cheap..Acerbis is way cooler but is too expensive..Maybe in the future..
Escusa mi. Mi no gusta de inglese....Prefiro belissima inglesa... :)

I was adapting the front KTM suspension on the XR but decided to tear apart the whole bike to give it a fresh new look. Gonna powder coat the frame and the swingarm. :)

Citazione di: zipper il Gennaio 06, 2008, 14:44:48 PMGonna powder coat the frame and the swingarm. :)
Which color would you use for the frame?
I've used silver and it looks really nice! ;)
About the swingarm, I don't know if it's actually a good idea to paint it... ???
Would paint stay on, during a normal use of the bike?
Maybe, you could anodize the alloy... ;)

HI!.Here in Portugal you can ride bike all year long....sometimes is cold but snow is very rare only in North. At this moment sky is clear, sun shines and is 16º C!!!!And the bike is at pieces.... :-\

im gonna powder coat the swing arm in black and the frame in graphite grey.
Actually powder coat is one of the best options to paint alluminium. For steel frames like XR not so good but still nice.
The problem of powder coating frame is that XR keeps oil in the frame and so you have to isolate all points where oil might pass like threads and hoses connections. The piece is sprayed with paint in powder and then goes to a oven about 200ºC + -
It gives a nice finish and its durable but still flexible. The problem about steel is that might become rusty under the paint..
Frame colour will be this.It doesnt look at the pic but it haves a small metallic shine.

Zipper, why did you choose a dark grey finish?
I see it is gloss, but isn't it so shiny, is it? ???
bella!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Great jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Thanks to all!! :)
I choose this colour cause it was the darkest grey they had.Darker than this just black, but black i dont like it.
I like dark bikes.I always had dark bikes.Only my first one (76 Vespa 150 Sprint) had a year 60´s blue and white scheme (kind a freak).
The paint is gloss but not much. Its darker than it looks on pic.The swingarm is gonna be black.
As you can see i love dark bikes. :) This is my sold KLR650. 1 year spended on garage almost every night. Yes, im a supermoto junkie and i spent more time working on the bikes than really riding them :)

Thats what im talking about...starting to look weird..very simple: you have new bikes and old bikes. You can not make a old bike look like a new bike or pick up a new bike and make it look old style without looking weird!!
Sorry Barte, but i dont like that 650R. i have seen it on Supermoto Junkie.XR-Italia haves much better taste BRP´s. If you take a good look you will find better looking and with less money spent BRP´s on XR-Italia.
I can modify my 600R forever but will never be a new bike.I can only make it look better on its own way: a vintage bike...

:ok:
Hi Zipper!
Your XR looks very very good :ok:
I think it would be better with the front rim painted in black as the rear one ::)
Great!
2 notes:
- front rim should be black!!!! :ok:
- exhaust muffler should 'loose' ktm mark! :P
Yes. black rim would look a lot better for sure :)
And the KTM logo must dissapear too..
But now i have a big problem. At about 120kmh the steering starts shaking like hell. And turns above 80 kmh the steering starts to shake too a lot... scary shit..
any ideas could be the reason? :-\
Did you check front wheel assembly? Does it spin correctly or is it needed any weight to get it fine?
Or... did you correctly mount the triple clamps on the frame?

Triple clamps have new bearings and races. The stem was machined on a lathe to fit XR bearings. It think its correctly mounted. Maybe the bearings should be more tight??hmmmm...guess not as they are tight enough but running freely.
About the front wheel was bought on ebay but i noticed it was from a crashed bike as the rim haves scrappes and the tyre too and for sure the marks the tyre had, this wheel after the crash never rode again.
It haves some weights on it.But the wheel was balanced for sure before the crash. After the crash never rode again. Only on my bike and i did not balanced it. Do you think might be a balancing issue?

So do I! :ok:
Thanks.Gonna give it a try next weekend. This week gonna make a Db killer as this pipe gave me some extra horse power ( might sound weird but i think this pipe gives more back compression to engine so it revs faster and stronger, and is running a bit more richer) but also gave me a lot more noise.the previous owner removed the original Db killer.
Thanks again. :)
If I'm not wrong KTM silencers should have a part (the rear one) like a standard 2 strokes silencer and another part (the front one) likt the standard XR600 silencer... I mean with NO sound-absorbing material inside!
Maybe shoul be a little difficult the get the right carburetion....
Any way, have a good job! :ok:
anyone got pics of Db killers??
This is the DbKiller of the GPR exhaust system...

Very very simple :P
thank you Barte. I think im on the right way.
Your Db killer also needs a Duracell battery? ;D
No Zipper... it's for the driver! :D

BTW: I have some XR600 parts for sale if anyone interested...Complete XR rear wheel with axle and Mitas Enduro tyre already installed, Mitas Cross tyre, my used seat cover, Polisport red fork protectors, Hebo front light (CE aproved) and a Shinko cross front tyre. And also a Clymer repair and maintenance manual. I will sell as parts or a "special" price for all this parts. I have pics and detailed info of parts if anyone interested. I will sell trough E-bay for a safer deal too..
sorry if this is not the right place to post this.

Good idea the black seat!
Thank you Barte :)
Hi!
Pic of the new seat cover...Looks better i think.I finished the Db killer and it works ;D
Now it makes less noise and the sound is better. It was BRAAP BRAAP. Now it is more BROOP BROOP and i can even ear the engine intake vacuum.

yeah good seat...auhuahuahuah BROOP it's better than BRAAP for listening to the engine :D
P.S. eliminate the KTM mark
KTM mark....OK..OK..I got it... ;D Im still looking for something to cover it..A friend of mine haves a trashed Vance&Hines pipe, so i might get the stamped mark and rivet it there...Still have to talk with him..
Thanks.

Whats wrong with my helmet? Are you talking of the spoiler?
Just came from a 100km ride...still shaking a bit cause of nerves...I created a MONSTER!!!!Muuuuaaaaahahahaah ahahahahahahaha
This shit now rips like a beast, turns even better and almost rip my arms off while braking..
Engine revs like a maniac and loves high revs and high speeds (hit 120km/h in a blink of eyes), turns very good ( my front tyre had low pressure - 0.9Bar - now haves 2.0Bar) and brakes a lot ;D I never had good brakes on a bike :) I raised my forks 12mm on the triple clamps and adjusted the front suspension softer...but still needs some clicks softer as its too hard on bumps and holes.
But still starts to shake above 120 km/h. Had to close gas at 130 as it was starting to scare me.
But i love it ;D
Dont forget to check your bolts every time you go out , or you may loose something ;D
(http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk263/zipper2680/IMG_0687.jpg)
Zipper, you should use loctite for these parts... :ok:
:ahh: ...of course...it's a KTM parts :D :D :D :D :D
Your XR try to eliminate it :D :D :D
ehehe...i was trying to make a small jump..but i dont have 2nd gear >:( on the last one i noticed something different ;D
How much money could be to repair my 2nd gear??i can do it myself. Just parts :-[
here in Italy a gear sprocket costs about 80 ... ::)
Zipper you should buy 2nd gear primary and secondary, am I right? ...maybe the complete gasket too... :ahh:
Didn't you noticed anything 'weird' when your bike was fully disassembled? :-[ :piagnone:
when i disassembled the bike the gearbox was already broke.but i decided not to fix it because i thought the engine needed a full rebuild.I was thinking to buy all parts (Hotcam, new valves,JE 654cc 10.8:1 piston, valve rocker arms, hotrod, mikuni flatslide, you know.....a full rebuild with some upgrades) and then fix the gear box too.
But after 300kms the bike does not burn oil, starts 2nd kick and pulls so strong!!!!Im getting used not to use 2nd gear, but its a shame have such a nice engine and not have 2nd gear to pull some tight corners where i live..I always have to use 3rd and some clutch.
I need both primary and secondary 2nd gears, gear forks might be bent too and the countersprocket shaft too...I can use the same gaskets...RTV high temperature silicone makes miracles!! ;D

My XR is a very limited special edition with only 4 gears ;D the 2nd is broke but i still ride it this way..no torque problem, just 1st gear.......3rd gear... ;D
Sorry, I forgot :ahh:
Only four speed like the racing ;D ;D
Latest mods: black powdercoated front rim and exhaust pipe..no more KTM logo :D
Balanced the wheels and trued the rims but i still have that wooble above 135 kmh :D i think its a question od bike geometry...too much weight on the front...gonna try to lift the front of the bike 1-2 cm and see the difference..The handling is great. Now im looking for more stability..

I forgot to mention that i installed some skate wheels on the axles about 1 month ago..2 days after installation i crashed on a intersection :D because i dont have 2nd gear i was turning in 3rd gear and suddenly the engine stalled...the rear slided and highsided me making me a "crash test dummie"..

Do you know any one who uses a GPR exhaust on a XR600? i saw some on italian ebay and was wondering if they are so good as they seem :-[
There are many users with the Gpr exhaust on their 600/650 Xr!
It's a good product, not expensive (aluminium is the cheaper)....and, important thing, is one of the few homologated exhaust!

so that means its not so loud as others?will pass a vehicle inspection?i saw some Big gun and FMF powercore but they all seem to be a bit loud. Its funny in the beggining but ends up being a police attraction.I already was called to stop but sfter checking papers and so on they didnt reclaim on the loud pipe but on bigger trips the noise can be disturbing...

Took a 90 kms ride today.Alone.Rained during the night, so the road was wet.Even so, i had some serious fun. Found out a 5 kms road inside of woods, full of twisties. Some turns were so tight, i needed to use 2nd gear ( wich i dont have :D ). The corners were so sharp that the banking was noticeable from far away.
I really had some fun.I am a slow rider and even considered to get another bike ( KTM or Husqvarna) but today was the day i realized that my pig was perfect for me. Has enough power to my habilitie, brakes good and turns even better. Even a fast rider with a XR250 can smoke me on the twisties, but even so i have some fun on my old lady.
She never let me bad, gets me home in safety ( wich is very important ) and still make some heads turn when i pass.
Have fun on your pigs !! Carnival is 3 days, but life is only 2 :D

Ha preso 90 kms guidano oggi. Alone.

Always nice pics, Zipper!
Your rear tyre is street-approved? ;D
;D im not very good in english ;D
you can read on the side wall of the tyre : "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE" so i do respect that and only use on national, secondary and dirt roads ;D
It also says :"FOR RACING PURPOSE ONLY" Im always racing against myself ;D
But im not sure if a police officer will believe on my story :-[

Hello Zipper, first of all conpliments for your bike! Awesome!
Escuse me what is that grease spread on the valve seats on the piston top?
Is it there to protect the steel surface or is it used also to verify clearances between valves and piston top?
Thank you
Bye!!!!
Pierpaolo

Thank you Pierpower.
The grease was used to check valve clearance for the high compression piston and raised head and cyllinder to avoid valve to piston contact.

Not sure, but i think yes...its a bmw and ktm original part..
My fully kitted XR640R Supermoto never lost sight from home...the reliability of the engine never inspired me to take it far away, but i was really wrong...with some dirt wheels on, camping stuff and tools and here we go..1200kms of road, sand, gravel, good food, good company and some laughs change my mind....not a single problem..
Some pics of 4 days on SW of Portugal...a XR640R, a TT600 and a XT350..
